Pick a topic within the pop culture space and gain 1,000 new followers and a viral post (>500k views), all within 30 days.

Approach

First I checked to see what was trending, Law Roach, stylist to Zendaya, Celine Dion, Lewis Hamilton and many other celebrities had just announced in a surprise instagram post that they were retiring from celebrity styling. People all over the world were guessing what made Law quit so abruptly.

I chose this topic. In order to stand out from big creators who were covering this, I needed to provide information others had missed, keep it fact-based, and provide a fresh perspective.

Since a celebrity was at the heart of this topic, I turned to Reddit and Tumblr. These sites are a goldmine when diving deep into a topic like a celebrity. They have all the info, timelines, theories, and receipts, especially if it’s a dedicated subreddit.

After a couple hours of picking through Zendaya, fashion, and Law Roach subreddits, I had enough to create content users would find value in. The trickiest part was actually creating the video. Before that, I’d strictly consumed content on TikTok, as opposed to being the one to create it. Engaging with that interface, figuring out which button and slides do what, how to add music, etc. was so much fun.
